I’ve long been a fan of historical fiction. I believe what captivates me most is the fact that it might have happened, though it is presented as any ‘ole tale. Many remark that we should learn from the past in order to compose a greater future, but I believe the past is best left just there. The knowledge that humans have gained in modern times is going to propel the world to great heights, just as the mindset of yesteryear was valuable to that time period, and I believe that is a beautiful thing. The more we take the time to seek the unique qualities found within old history (both the good and the bad), the more knowledge we gain.
Both the Middle Ages and early American history interest me more than any other period in time. Think about it. These were times that lay claim to unmatched progression and devastation, all in one. Society wasn’t nearly as cut-and-dry as it is today, and in a way, I wish I could experience that kind of existence (if even only for one day). Can you imagine the sheer amount of novel-worthy situations that may have arisen then? So much wonder…….so much mystery. We are only human.
